When (if) did SAAB stop using lead in their paints?

Hi folks,
1986 900S, red. Looking to polish/wax it with a simple 1 step cleaner wax. Tested one spot...noticed a lot of red on the rag...no surprise...old, single stage paint I presume.
I know lead in paint was banned (really reduced by %) in 1978 in household paints...but I've come to learn that it didn't apply to automotive paints.
But SAAB, I would imagine, would have been at the forefront of safety/health/environmental consciousness compared to most other brands.
Asking because I'd like to wax the whole car soon. If the red paint is coming off on the rags, it may not be a great idea to involve my kids.
To test I would need to get someone to come with an xrf gun. Those little swabs wont work since they turn red to indicate lead...and with the solvent on them, they will probably turn red anyway due to the paint.
Thanks for any thoughts!!
