Hi Chris, yours might be in much worse shape than mine was - it broke in about 5 places and I used glass wool reinforced fiberglass resin to hold the joints together. There are pictures iirc on my 1989 photo album. It's not pretty but it held up.
It may depend how factory authentic you want it, and my suggestion would affect the interior acoustics and softness of the headliner in a roll over... However, if the headliner was intact enough to work with, given I have experience glassing surfboards, I would gently remove loosest dusty material and then do a fiberglass, or even better, epoxy lamination (I use entropy resin) to reinforce the entire structure while keeping the same shape. I would use a layer of 4oz e-glass to reinforce. One layer of 4oz isn't going to mess up the shape much if you make appropriate relief cuts and squeegee it appropriately. I think the headliner material is likely to absorb a lot of resin also. If it is in bad shape, I might do the backside first to consolidate before removing the old headliner. It will be bomb proof once done. Then spray glue the new headliner to that. This wouldn't be a cheap solution but I suspect it is going to be hard to find intact headliners at this point (from cars that aren't worth saving).
