Probably as most of the readers of this board do, I occasionally see topics of interest or good advice come up, and I print them and save them in a file.
Yesterday I did a few quickie repairs to the Beastie, and I'm just letting you all know that my Love/Hate needle is pegged to the L side, thanks to having so many good Saab owners out there sharing their knowledge.
My headlight switch would rotate to the right when I turned on the lights, so, per the conversations I read on here a week or so ago, I pulled it out. The problem was exactly as was stated. I took a short piece of a plastic toothpick the right length, wrapped it in electrical tape to make a squishy plug, and inserted it (wedged it) into the slot in the top of the switch. That way, I didn't have to mess with epoxy. Put the switch back in, and it's solid -- good as new! Thanks for the inspiration, guys.
Per a conversation between Dave N. and Barry, I decided to try the "10 minute fix" on my shifter pin. It took me about 20 minutes, but that was because I was fiddling with my grease gun. I cleaned the guts of the shifter, turned the pin out a few turns (just a hair more than 22 mm) and put it back together again. 3rd-to-5th upshifts are silky now. Nice!
Someone said I could order the little plastic thingies that go on the aft end of the roof rails from my local Saab dealership. I ordered them last month (they charged me $5 each for $1.40 parts!) and got them this week. A little silicon gasket compound now holds them in place, and they make a good cosmetic improvement to the car. Maybe it's not worth ten bucks, but I wouldn't have done it if people on here hadn't asked.
Anyway, profuse thanks to all who contribute and share their experiences and knowledge here. I'm certain there are hundreds of readers who rarely post, but have similarly profited from the information exchanged on TSN.
