Jake,
You can go back to the old posts and check around September 23rd or so to find the whole conversation, if you like. But here's what I did:
Pulled up the rubber bellows from my shifter, turning it partially inside out to expose the rectangular opening below. Next put the tranny in 3rd or neutral and removed the 3 #25 torx bolts holding the shifter in, being careful not to drop them down inside the hole. You might have to move the shifter from 3rd to 4th to get to the top bolt... if your car was in gear with the parking brake on, you should be able to move the shifter easily without using the clutch. The shifter pops up a little when the last one comes out. Pull the shifter straight up once the bolts are out and it's in your hand.
I took the shifter to my workbench and cleaned off the old grease. There's a cotter pin through the lower assembly. Be careful pulling it out; the pieces can go flying off the end of the shifter once it's off. The pin sticking out of the bottom of the shifter can now be adjusted by unscrewing it a turn or two. There was some argument about whether the bottom pin should protrude 22mm or 27mm, plus or minus 0.5mm, so measure yours, and adjust accordingly (if yours is already at 25 or more, set it to 27; if it's something less than 22, set it out to 22.) Look through the little hole where the cotter pin came out and you'll see you can only turn the bottom pin in multiples of 1/2 turn. I turned mine out 1.5 turns to get it just beyond 22mm. Adjust it, then, of course, push the cotter pin back in to hold it all together again.
Put new grease on the pieces and then stick it back in the car -- it's very obvious how it fits in and you can't really mess it up unless you're blind and very dumb. There's a plastic "key" on the assembly and it drops into place with gentle wiggling. Your shift knob should, of course, have the numbers rightside up. :D Put back the three torx bolts and refit the rubber bellows over it and you're done. It's a simple 15 minute procedure; much less if you find you don't need to adjust that lower pin.
