How cool is too cool? Re:Engine Temp... Posted by JustinHiFi [Email] (#829) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JustinHiFi) on Mon, 16 Oct 2000 12:24:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
When i first got my '91 900 S, the engine temp usually ran very hot. (Upwards of 3/4) I soon researched this problem and found many things that can improve this "problem". I replaced the fan temp switch with the 82deg, new t-stat 82deg, and also did the "fan fix" via townsendimports under technical documents. After all that was done and said, the normal temp dropped to 1/2. Sometimes, when running hard on a hot summer's day it would be pushed up to 7/8, but would quickly return to 1/2.
About 1 month ago, I flushed the radiator and heating coil parts of the cooling system. I did not flush the block at the time, because of lack of time. I simpily pulled off lower and upper rad hoses flushed with garden hose. Did the same thing for the coil also. It did nt seem that the radiator was plugged or dirty because when flushing, nothing solid or weird looking came out. After that, I noticed an immediate cooling sys temp drop. Now it normally runs at 1/3 and it is very hard to get it to 1/2.
Over the weekend I through the heater on full while I was driving about 40mph. The temp gauge NEVER go over 1/8. The temp outside was around 78-80deg.
From when I first got the car to now, I am really amazed that the temp has dropped that much!
Finally my question is,
***Is there a tempature for the engine that is TOO cool? I figured not since it is in the green area.
Thanks,
Justin
