Blew the turbo this morning!

Well, I didn't think I'd ever be the one to overboost a turbo, but I was late to a meeting this AM, it was cold here in Ohio, I'm in business attire, more excuses?...and well, I really shoulda pulled over.
I had pulled the vacuum/boost retard off the distributor last night to look at adjusting it for my higher APC values. At neighborhood speeds the car was acting funny, and I thought I must not have put the arm on the the retard unit back on...fine I'll get to work and pull it off, fix it. So I get on the main roads, and I'm getting immediate boost at low rpm's...hmm, this is pretty nice, get on the highway and it really starts to boost.
I think uh-oh, a stuck wastegate? Dag! It gets worse, at 55 it's making like 10-12psi, any more gas and it'll go hard red boost. So I go a mile or so to the next exit, boost the whole way, the car dies as I pull it off into a Frisch's.
Car will hardly run now, I assume the wastegate stuck and the turbo is cooked and blocking the exhaust.
Funny thing is the dipstick for the tranny is gone! The top of the fill tube has a hard crust filling it, I assume so much heat was going through the turbo, it cooked the oil there, very wierd though, any thoughts?
So, for others, if you get those boost spikes, back off! I'll have to pull the turbo this week and take a look.
Any thoughts on where to get one cheap? I only got 211K out of this one, not too bad. :)
