If those balljoint bolts are loose you'll get play between the balljoint and suspension A-arm. Maybe even more than you would get with a worn/bad balljoint. Another thing to check is the lower a-arm bushing bracket bolts where they mount to the body. Our old '85 900t drove me crazy trying to find the problem until I checked the torque on every bolt in the suspension. The loose lower a-arm bolts allowed the whole lower a-arm to move in and out. It was kind of scary to drive.
