Oil Pump Going Out?... Posted by JustinHiFi [Email] (#829) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JustinHiFi) on Sat, 21 Oct 2000 23:52:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
In my '91 900 S, lately I have noticed a large increase of tappit noise @ startup for about 3 seconds. After that, the noise goes away. Also, at first start in the morning, no matter what temp it outside, the oil light will pop on while car is running for the first .5 of a second and quickly goes away.
I live in Central Florida where the summers get up to 100-107degrees F and winters get down to low 40's. I am currently running Pensoil/Fossil/10w-40. My manual reccommends that weight of oil because of the high tempatures endured here in Florida. Will this weight of oil have anything to do with the oil light or tappit sounds? Should I run 10w-30? Any suggestions?
In about 2 weeks, I have an appointment with my mechanic to replace the oil pump just to be sure. I can still cancel this if it is found unneeded. I always like to get approval from my friends first before plunging into "heavier" maintance work.
Thank you very much,
Justin Duthie
