"Started at 65 MPH on a slight upgrade in 5th and accelerated. ...My turbo was a solid 1/3 in to the yellow. How did my second love do?"
Hmmmm. What you should see in that test is your boost gauge run up to the top of the yellow zone and stay up there, with a stock setup. You're not getting your full measure of boost, and I have insufficient info to explain why. 1/3 yellow sounds like a little =more= than base boost -- there are some conditions that can limit you to getting only base, but since you're above that, we can probably eliminate that from consideration.
I know this is vague, but it could be something's loose, like a vacuum line, or slightly misadjusted, like ignition timing or wastegate actuator, or needs attention, like a dirty throttle body or plugs. Or it could be something's broken somewhere, some little solenoid or electro-mechanical valve, robbing you of the car's full performance potential.
Sorry I can't be more helpful here, other than to suggest you systematically check and eliminate potential problems until you find the one that's doing it. Do the inspection and routine cleaning chores first, before suspecting a component failure. As you know from reading TSN, vac lines are our bane, so carefully check them out first. I like to disconnect them individually from the manifold and use a little Mi-T-Vac handpump to see if they hold vacuum. That technique has helped me find trouble in the past.
It's worth some time under the hood to find out why you're not getting full boost performance. Good luck!
As for your other questions, I don't have a convertible, so can't help you with #3. My doors don't tick, so don't know the answer to #2, but I don't have the SaabGuard alarm system, either, so that might be the source. As for #1, yes, those knobs light up. Make sure the rheostat on the dash behind the turn signal lever is turned fully clockwise, and then turn the headlight switch to Park (engine on or off), or On (with engine running) and you should see them.
