My experience with Saab fuel-pump failures on 99's, 900's & 9000's (about a half dozen failures or so over the past 30 years)is that one minute they're working fine, yet the next time you go start up and they're kaput! My last two ('92 & '93 9KT's) failed at 160K & 125K miles respectively, with no warning whatsoever. Unlike an Audi's tell-tale fuel-pump whine for several months before ultimate failure, I've never had any obvious symptoms (noise, stumbling, erratic idle, stalling etc.) with my Saabs, nor have any failed while running. Perhaps a periodic Haynes test may be the way to go, but you might also consider a pre-emptive strike by just replacing the unit after 100-125K (about $250 at your local "Indy") and not worry about it. Good luck!
