Is the fluid level in the brake resevoir low? That is the only way a leaking brake 'master' should affect your clutch.
I think the guy is selling you a bill of goods. Sounds like there is still air in the line, and if he can't get it out, then take it to the Saab guy and send the bill to your mechanic.
If the fluid level is low, and you do have fluid on the bell housing, then it would not surprise me if your slave were leaking. Big $$, but your indy should fix free. Sounds like you are on the right track by trying to find leak.
Will qualify that I am no expert, but have fixed a few masters and slaves. Kinda sounds like air and/or leak to me.
