to know weather or not the fan is coming on early you need to check the engine temp when the fan comes on,using a thermometer,remove the rad cap(engine cold)put the thermometer in the coolant and start the car,let the car run until the fan comes on,should be around 190 degrees,if it comes on around 190 then you know the switch is ok and the gauge is off,I have never seen a fan switch fail in a mode that makes it come on early on a 9000,usually the low speed stops working alltogether.make sure your acc is shut off during the test
