? regarding base boost and cruise

It was my understanding that when cruise control is engaged that one would only see base boost. Yesterday when driving up a long hill through a pass while the cruise was set the boost went way beyond base. Also, I could manually accelerate way past 'base boost' when the cruise was engaged.
No complaints here, but just wondering if that was supposed to happen.
