Did he tell you what the pressures are? If you can find out and post them, maybe we can help with diagnosis.

As the saying goes "anything can happen", but a clogged evaporator is very rare. I've done quite a bit of a/c work on cars and never seen it happen. It's also very easy to check (assuming the freon's out of the system) - just try to blow air through it. There should be essentially no restriction.

When there's a clog in an a/c system, 50% of the time it's the expansion valve, 49% the receiver-dryer, 1% everything else!

BTW, how much do you trust your mechanic? Obstructions in a/c systems really aren't that hard to diagnose, especially on a Saab where all the components are readily accessible. You might consider having someone else look at it...
