Sounds like the motor could well be shot. Is this a manual? May be time for a new clutch or tranny if auto.

All that said, if Robert K's numbers are right, you are still faced with a $2k repair. A junkyard will probably give you $50 for your car, a mechanic perhaps $500. I've face this before, and decided to do the repair. Ended up buying a newer Saab at a price I could't refuse a year later, but had a year's use and got a few thou out of the old car.

I appreciate No Snaab's honesty and opinion. These are strong cars, you do many repairs yourself, and even the non turbo is a great drive. Just think how much money you'll be saving in car payments. It puts a lot of perspective to repair decisions.

Speaking of perspective- congratulations on the new baby. If your first, your life is going to change!! Enjoy. And be VERY patient....
