I'm 29 and have owned 9 Saabs thus far. Early on I was only able to afford the less expensive used 900's (80,83,85,86), but nothing could convince me drive anything else. Not even the expensive parts that I had to install myself, because I couldn't afford to have someone do it for me. It was always something, but I mattered none as long as that ole' turbo was creating pressure.
Last year I traded my '89 9000T on a new 9-5 Wagon LPT (wifes car). Although a very nice car, not what I had in mind. I began my quest for a clean 9000 Aero. Well, I got my Aero. Damn, what a car. It knocked my socks off, but immediately started to find things wrong (cv joint, motor mount, thermostat, BPC, exhaust created by broken motor mount). There's some money required to get this stuff fixed, but would I rather have a Honda or Toyota that doesn't require as much TLC? Heck no. Even with everything broken (I wouldn't drive it with the broken mount) I'd still suck the doors off of all those rice burners and toast 'em in the corners.
Bottom line, no matter how reliable we try to say Saabs are, we don't drive them because they are reliable. We drive them because they're Saabs. We love the performance, we love the safety, we love having a car most people know nothing about then watching their jaws drop as we smoke 'em with ease and still get 32mpg on the highway.
Cheers
