and great troubleshooting tips as well. Since most of us don't have an O'scope handy in the garage, would dane really be able to check the voltage of the waveform with a multimeter? Should he just be looking for a fluctuating DC voltage?

Mind if I use your explanation on my "soon to be" website?

Could you provide more detailed info about the waveform (freq, PK-PK, pulse width) and theory?
