Drove to the office this morning, no problem. A chill, thick sea-fog rolled into Hong Kong during the day. Hopped in the car to go home, started it up fine, drove 20 feet and it was like the wheels had gone square, it was so rough!! Stopped, gave it some revs in neutral, OK, or so it seemed. Got onto the hiway, put my foot down. Engine STOPPED!!Released throttle, engine kicked-back in. Limped home with GREAT difficulty. Have read a lot on TSN and suspected that the cold wet air was affecting the AMM. Took it out and sprayed half a tin of CRC "CO Contact Cleaner" thru it, from all angles and from both ends. Lots of fine black filth washed out. When I first looked thru the AMM, I thought everything was black. WOW! What a difference the cleaning made, the cooling fins are silver, the mount is grey, the fine wires are copper!! I let the CRC evaporate, and the water condensed in the AMM dry out. Re-fitted the dry AMM. Crossed my fingers and started the car. Ya BEAUTY!!!! Ran like it's never run before. Smooth idle, a fair bit slower idle too. Took her for a quick canter. She's BETTER than ever before!!!
Thank you to everyone on TSN. Just reading all of the advice equipped me with sufficient knowledge to diagnose and repair a heart-stopping problem!
And I didn't have to post an oft-answered question!!
