I purchased a new 2001 9-5 Wagon, 185HP LPT. I found the car to be extremely pleasing to drive on long hauls with the family (outstanding ride comfort, quiet, linear power delivery) but my previous experience with 900 and 9000 Turbos left me wanting better performance. The remedy came in my 94 9000 Aero. Now that's a car!!!! Both cars are great for different reasons. As far as reliability, I had to put $4000 into my "meticulously maintained 9000 Aero" in the first three months of ownership (purchased it with 125K miles), so i can't vouch for the reliability of the 9000s (also had an 89 that blew 5th gear for no reason) and I haven't had the 9-5 long enough to determine if it's reliable or not. aI don't drive these cars because they are trouble-free, I drive them because they are capable and safe (oh and I love them).

Bottom line:

My wife loves her 9-5 LPT wagon. She loves the comfort and feels very confident when behind the wheel. She hates my 9000 Aero for all the reasons I love it. Crazy fast, explosive acceleration, and most importantly the 5 speed tranny.

I like the 9-5 for slow paced trips. Anything else the Aero goes, on rails I might add. I think it is actually a tad roomier than the 9-5 and you can't beat those Aero seats. When I walk outside, I admire the 9000 Aero. Not too impressed with the appearance of the 9-5.
