Sorry, I was just being wise with Elmer...

On the subject of your SAAB, there is the possibility that the Nivomat rear suspension on your car has already been swapped out for something conventional. If this is the case, you may only need rear shocks.
Since the car is a 1989, this may have been done. I know Volvo used Nivomats too, and they gave problems very early in the car's life: like within three years! I'm not sure if this was the case with the SAAB, but I doubt the car is still on it's original rear suspension.

I'm inclined to think that if you replace the rear springs, you should probably do the fronts too. I'm not sure what mileage your car has, but it's probably quite a bit. (100k +) Depending on where you live and what the roads are like, you may want to go with an aftermarket set of springs/shocks. These would stiffen the ride from what the car was like new, but if you have worn shocks in the rear (and possibly front too) the ride is probably a long way off it's prime anyway. You could find that 'performance' springs and shocks will actually make the car ride better, and handle MUCH better. I would try calling Bo @ Engstrom http://www.engstrom.net is the website, but I would call him rather than emailing him, because he seems to be slow responding to email at times. He is very knowledgeable, and sells some good aftermarket suspension setups. Somebody on here bought the 'sportchassi' kit from him, but decided to replace it with an Abbott system, because the sportchassi wasn't stiff enough. This leads me to believe that the sportchassis is not too stiff for the taste of the average driver. It is basically the springs & shocks from a later model 9000 Aero. (earlier 9000 Aeros are much stiffer, the setup got softer as the model progressed). Let us know how you do.
