Oil level good Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Mon, 3 Mar 2003 17:28:52 In Reply to: Re: Check light - Oil level - help!, Karthik, Mon, 3 Mar 2003 14:47:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I try and keep the oil level right at Max, or a hair above. Will you do damage if the level is half-way between Min and Max? No. But you might get nuisance Oil Level indications. The opinion from folks that rebuild lots of Saab engines that keeping the level high is good for the timing chain. If you run the level well over Max, you risk having the oil level hit the crankshaft, which can cause oil frothing. But that's a level well over Max. A little over is good.
As to the ABS, if it went away, that's good. Remember, the self test has a threshold of Good and Bad. Light off = good, light on = bad. It's like a doctor that has only two diagnoses: You're in Perfect Health, or You're Dead. If the sensor signal is just a hair on the good side of the threshold that lights the light, you're in perfect health. If it's a hair on the bad side, you're dead. So you may have a sensor that's on the hairy edge, and some combination of time, temperature, and phase of the moon trips it over. So hope that was a one-time event, and that it behaves.
