Yes Annie, cleaning the TB is a good preventative measure, although there is not necessarily a direct cause/effect relationship where a dirty TB will cause TCS to go into limp-home mode. And as far as I know cleaning the TB is pretty much the only thing one can do to keep it operating properly and prolong its life.
I was told by two indy mechanics that with the 5-spd cars the electronic TB has a throttle position sensor that can malfunction (thereby causing TCS to go into limp-home mode) and that IT IS replaceable. However with automatic cars the same sensor is *not* replaceable and requires the entire TB to be replaced. Anyone: if I have any of this info incorrect please help me set the record straight once and for all.
