I bought my 97 last year and went half way across the country to get a low-mileage, late model, salt free 5sp (then drove it home). This is my second 9000, so I was already prepped for some of the gremlins that tend to lurk in these beautiful beasts. Still, the advice on quasi's site about early exorcism of all Saab demons is very sound. And unless your car was owned by a totally anal Saaber, trust me, they will be there. It might be the $350 serpentine belt tensioner overhaul that needs to be done about every 50k. Or if the car's got higher miles, there might be a new DI cassette lurking around the corner. My point is, these cars are a dream to drive and much more reliable than many say. But they need to be aggressively maintained and almost everyone lets things slide before they unload their car. So buy with the expectation that you will need to spend bucks and time getting your new purchase up to spec. And use this site to find honest, good mechanics and to air questions of all kinds.
