That's correct. I recently pulled the in-dash CD Player from the din slot on my CSE and replaced it with of those "Taurus style" cup/coin holders. Works great and looks like a factory option. My car came with the armrest, and the cup holder in the center console between the seats is useless given it will not lift all the way up with the armrest in place.
While doing so, I noticed there was a 2-port junction box (aka Y connector) behind the dash. The cable from the CD changer (in the trunk) and the cable from the in-dash CD player plugs into the this, and then the lead from the junction box plugs into the back of the radio. If you were only using one or the other you could bypass this junction box and go directly from the in-dash CD or trunk mounted changer directly into the back of the radio. However, you'll need the Y-Connector to use both.
