G'day from NZ. "good old rain and marginal road surfaces", sounds familiar.

I'm running a pair of Firestone SZ-50 on the front of my 9k Aero, and OEM Michelin pilots on the back. The Firestones seem to be good value for money and offer good wet and dry performance. I do find them a bit noisy though on the coarse-chip surfaces that we have here. They have been recommended by users on this forum and at an English site.

You might also want to take a look at Continental ContiExtreme if you're likely to encounter a bit of snow from time to time, as you do; I'm tempted to go for a set of 4 next time I'm due. You can read about them at the Tirerack.com site, with the caveat that driving conditions tend to be quite different 'over there'...
