from what I have read, all manner of transmission anamolies
occur unless you change trans fluid and filter often, as in very
often. Grundge in the fluid will keep the tranny from working
normally as the crud migrates around the trans and prevents it
from working normally. In that auto trans on Saab is very iffy
anyway, I recommend that you flush and change trans fluid, (Quasimoto
says do four changes consecutively to get rid of the old dirty
fluid), on general priciples if you don't know when it was last done.
The word on the auto trans is fluid change often, much more than
on other cars. I have also read that people with auto tranmissions
realize a large improvement in shifting and performance after getting
rid of the old fluid and filter. I think you can clean the filter
instead of replacing it, from the drawing in the parts manual it looks
like a simple wire mesh basket filter.
