doing timing chain cover......
I am compiling vital info as I will be R&R all timing components quite soon--all of them (sending out order tonight). The main crankshaft/oilpump seal has been replaced last year. I am not sure about the oil pump o-ring, but presumably the indy did that as well (not sure you can just do the seal without the o-ring;-). There is no oil leaks from that side, with exception to small amount from sump.
Question(s):
I've heard scary stories about low/zero oilpressure on this board after doing oil pump work....things like pump not priming etc...
Is it a safer bet to simply leave the oil pump as is on the timing cover to avoid the priming/possible trouble situations? Or does the pump need to be removed? Does the pump need to be primed if the pump is left alone?
hope these questions do not sound too nutty, but hte haynes manual is crappy in explaining these procedures, and I have a factory manual on it's way, but will be about 3 weeks. I'm willing to wait until then to do the job but i would like some preparatory insight for me to visualise first;-)
thanks!
Steve
