Charging at 14.5 to 15.0 Volts - Should I be worried? Posted by dave24 [Email] (#457) [Profile/Gallery] (more from dave24) on Fri, 16 Jan 2004 18:10:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm hoping the knowledge base of this forum can help ease my anxiety.. or help me diagnose what is wrong. She's a 97 9000CS 5 speed, 125K miles.
I was bringing her to my indie the other day to replace a broken fuel tank strap. It was very cold here in Massachusetts (below zero) and on the way, there was an unusual buzzing sound coming from the dash. The display was showing 14.8 volts - usually it's between 13.9 and 14.2. My mechanic replaced the alternator. I stopped by to pick it up - after hours so no one to talk to - and it was reading high 14's to 15.0 Volts.
I decided to leave it there and talk to him Monday because I am afraid of causing more damage. Is it OK to drive like this? Is this within a normal range?
