...it's important to make a distinction between the inner driver itself, which is the aluminum cup the tripod joint interfaces, and the tripod bearing whose bearings you're a bit concerned about.
Inner drivers were notorious in the 900s, but haven't had the same frequency of posts on this board. In 900s, the aluminum would erode with mileage along one side of the tripod grooves, causing a vicious cycle of vibration and increased drivetrain slop. The insider's tip was to swap the inner drivers from one side to the other, so that their "good" sides were exposed for forward driving.
Falling apart tripod bearing on the old axle? Just an old tripod bearing that probably lost some lubrication and operated at higher temperatures for 20,000 miles, and was somewhat overcooked by the time you removed it. I wouldn't worry much about inner driver damage. 900s were exacerbated by the 900 driveline lash, you remember that? 9000s never put so much stress on the inner drivers.
