Thanks for the answers, gents. Light just came on again after my 4th 2-hour commute home (8 total counting going to work.

Anyway here's teh detail for the benefit of others now and in the future.

Thus far (with the exception of 40 mintues ago) it's only happened when starting cold after a long day at work.

Turn key EDU illuminates with the Check oil message which remains on. (Sinking feeling results.) Oil dipstick check shows level is extremely high- say, half the dipstick.

I've tried restarting, driving around a few blocks (I don't recommend in the event of the opposite situation: low pressure or levels). Usually this does little or nothing at which point I get out and do something else (snoop under the hood, etc.) leaving the car off for roughly 10 min. When I restart, the light has gone out. Perhaps by coincidence.

40 min. ago it came on after a brief stop at the post office during my 2 hour trip home. None of my technique above worked and I was in a bad neighborhood so I drove home 10 mi. keeping it under 2500rpms and the turbo out of the yellow (assumed possible lack of circulating oil for cooling). Made it home without any apparent damage- no smoke, fumes or performance dips (not that I was pushing).

Anyway, for now I'm assuming that the oil pressure switch needs to be replaced. I picked one up Tuesday at Charles River Saab- $20/ouch. Likely your generic would have been cheaper Bill, if we're referring to the same thing, but I have only now just read your message.

Should that fail, or the Homer sensor be different than what I purchased, I'll try that and post a report. Likely working on this tomorrow.

Thanks for the help SuoTimo, curt and Bill!
