I rechecked my lab test from Feb. 2000 using Royal Purple 15w40 after 5k miles, and I show no lead in that sample. The only place I can think lead would be present is in the sleeve bearings, so perhaps that is the source.
Here are some stats from this test (ppm):
Wear metals:
Iron: 5
Lead: 0
Copper: 4
Tin: 0
Aluminum: 0
Chromium: 3
Nickel: 0
Titanium: 0
Additive and contaminant metals:
Silicon: 1
Boron: 1
Sodium: 12
Potassium: 0
Phosphorus: 730
Zinc: 410
Calcium: 2404
Barium: 0
Magnesium: 99
Molybdenum: 78
Antimony: 0
Physical properties:
TBN: 5.0
Fuel: <0.5%
Water: <0.3%
TSS: <0.04% (not sure what this is)
Viscosity @ 210°F: 67.0
O²: 3
N: 2
Their analysis was that wear was extremely low based on this sample. It's interesting you're showing moly in your sample, as some (like our resident Amsoil salesman) have argued that Mobil 1 has no moly, which it obviously it does. This is good, as it is an excellent anti-wear additive, albeit expensive, that few oil makers choose to include in their formulae.
