since the manual Aero has a larger Mitsubishi turbo rather than the Garrett on the CSEs and, as you correctly say, on automatic Aeros. Automatic cars have an ECU circuit to restrict boost, plus a vacuum hose from the inlet tract to to gearbox. The ECU boost restriction can be neutralised, however. And the Mitsubishi turbo is apparently slower to spool (being bigger) though fitting a larger exhaust, such as the JT 3", helps minimise turbo lag on any turbo car, and the automatic transmission tends to mask lag effects anyway.
