hello there,
After looking at my own rear seat in my 1990 9000 turbo, i can see that without the little strap, that mechanism has vitually no chance of being operated... i wish i had more good news for you... but i think what we need to figure out now, is like you said... how to break the old mechanism completely off... without damaging your seat itself. Then all you need to do is go to a junkyard, and look for a rear seat that has the locking mechanism with strap still attached... and screw it onto your seat...
pretty easy fix... IF you can break the old one. I would say crowbar... but you don't want to break the post that is mounted to the car body underneath the seat... i mean maybe MAYBE MAYBE you could break the post, and also replace that too, but then this compares to diiging a hole in your yard with dynamite! (uncontrolable)
just out of curiosity, which side has the broken strp, the larger side rear seat (with the armrest) or the smaller side (just the one seat on drivers side)
also, do you really haul that much stuff around that you need it to fold? i hardly ever use mine... but i can see why it would bother you
-good luck, post your results
