AirCon Compressor Wiring - V6

I have an Aircon question. Mine has been behaving erratically. I noticed at the side of the compressor there are two wires - one red, the other black that come out near the rear of the compressor. The red one goes to a connector and the black one seemes to the tucked round somewhere behind the drive pulley. I pulled it gently - thinking that the wire had got caught behind the pulley somehow and it came free with a small spade connector thing on the end. It might be a ground wire for the solenoid that engages the compressor drive at the pulley - but I am a bit cautious of just grounding it.
Any ideas welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Ken
