The sequence for "tricking" the ECU is:

1. pull the #9 fuse
2. start the car
3. put into Drive
4. replace the fuse

Notice I removed your Step #4 ("put into Park"). It is my belief that once you move the selector out of any forward or reverse gear, and then put it back into a forward or reverse gear, the ECU goes back to auto mode. The other end of Pin 14 is the gear selector, and when it is put into a moving gear, it sends the signal to the ECU via fuse 9 (hence why you want to remove it before putting it into Drive for the initial start). So you will have the "trick" happen so long as you don't shift out of "D" (or "R"). Now, does this apply to "1", "2", and "3" gears? I shift my auto like a stick quite often, so I'm wondering if by doing that, I have now put the ECU into auto mode. That's something I'd like to know.

As for your mods, I have installed a BSR remapped ECU, JT 3" exhaust, K&N air filter, Hyperboost piston-style BPV, as well as various other goodies, and I'm definitely sure the car is pulling 250+ hp. Now that I do this "trick", it is probably even more. I don't know what mods you have done, but you also might be pulling higher than 240 hp.

Lower mpg's is just the nature of the beast of installing a re-mapped ECU. I have posed this question before, and it seems others who have done this same mod are also suffering from it. I only average approx. 18.5 mpg. There probably isn't much you can do. Also remember that those of us who do have this mod tend to drive a little more aggressive more often (just because we can :-)), so take that into consideration as well.

Joe
