I've been searching the archives, and can't find a clear description of how to diagnose the ticking I have in my 92, which I started and drove today (with what little fluid was left in the slave cylinder) so it wouldn't be neglected (haven't driven in month or two).

It was ticking a couple months ago, and getting louder, but it was very loud ticking today in the 5 or 10 minutes I drove it to fill up a low tire.

Any help or direction on how to differentiate ticking noises would be great. They are heard easily outside or inside of car, throughout rpm's.

I can't recall off the top of my head the last fluid I put in, but I think it was 10W40 synthetic or 15W40 synthetic.

Car has close to 167K miles, ticking getting louder with each progressive year...
