It was a toss-up between an '01 wagon or a 9000. It's primarily going to be my wife's car, replacing an old ('88) 9000, and every car she looked at she said "It isn't a 9000."
In fact, we drove a very nice V6 wagon with barely 29K miles earlier in the day. Very nice car. But we weren't ready to drop $21K before taxes. I had found a very nice high-mileage 9000, and we bought it later that afternoon. The theory is that 9000s aren't being made anymore, and we might as well enjoy the last of the breed. At the Saab dealer, I saw a bunch of potential used cars. So in a few years, I'll pick up a nice off-lease '04 wagon.
Yeah, I picked up a high-mile (101K) '97 CSE for a fraction of the cost of a used '01 wagon. The engine is only 45K miles old. Inside and outside super clean, and the previous owner (#2) had done every single service. Guy dropped over $10K on the car in the past four years, ($5K in fresh engine alone). I've got a pile of receipts from a very rich Saab dealership. So, knock on burl-wood dash, this guy will see 200K with minimal effort.
After seeing a receipt for $117 to install a new radio mast, or $400 for new rear pads and rotors, I understand why the guy sold it. And I understand that if you don't do your own work, these cars will kill you.
Ha! I do my own work!
