What did I do? Thermostat/Heater problems multiplying..

It was a cold morning in Northwest Ohio this morning and I noticed that the cabin of my 95 9kCSE never really got up to a comfortable temperature on my drive into work - even when I put the ACC all the way up to 78F. The engine temperature gauge has read low for quite a long time now (just 2 or 3 mm above "L") so I figured it was time for a new thermostat. I just got in from doing that now - and instead of lukewarm air from the vents, now I get freezing cold air, even on HI. Not only that, the check engine light is on, which I've never had before.
The thermostat was a Wahler from Eeuroparts - is that what I get for not going with genuine Saab? Is that likely the culprit or is there something else going on here?
What about the check engine light? I've unpugged the battery and I'll see if it's cleared in the morning - I may have had a bad connection when I reattached throttle position sensor or AIC connector I guess.
Thanks for any ideas.
Rod
