Hello Everybody,
I have an automatic 92 9000 CD 2.3 Turbo with 40k miles and have a number of questions that are going through my head:
On february I did the 60k Kilometres service to the car just before travelling to Uruguay for summer vacations. When I was driving with the cruise control on the left lane on the 2 lanes per way road in Punta del Este, I had to make a left turn and stop between the two ways, to cross to other side. To stop I turned off the cruise control and let the car slow itself down as the road was inclinated upwards. Before reaching the turn, the engine stalled and I got stuck in the fast lane, ten metres behind the left turn. This happened at night and the following happened again so I called what suposedly is an independent mechanic in Argentina (there is only one official place to buy and service Saabs in Argentina), and the mechanic said over the phone that the problem was the poor quality of gas in Uruguay. He told me to drive until I had consumed all the gas, and then refill with some other brand. After returning to Argentina, the same has happened to me some four or six times. Sometimes even driving at a 100 mph the car will start to loose rpm, then downshift, loose rpm, etc, until i turns off when you stop. The check engine sign appears but the car starts perfectly right after that and it drives fine.
So today I took the car to the mechanic to check for an oil leak and asked another mechanic if the poor gas of Urugauay could have I don't know, damaged the fuel filter or the injectors, and he said: "No, the most probable thing is the fuel pump or the DI cassette, this things have their life cycles."
What are the expected life cycles of a DI cassette? I certainly don't think they are good for 40k miles only. When I talked to some other Saab owner he said about this Saab independent mechanic, they were thieves or stealers, but I don't know if he was referring to the prices they charge or that they could do some wrong things to cars just to earn more. I say this because this happened right after I had serviced the car.
Has this stalling issue happened to anyone of you?
I will continue in another post.
Thank You!
