I've just done (a week ago) an auto (yuck!) to manual conversion on a '91 2.0i 9000S for my brother. The system is LH 2.4 with the standard crank-mounted hall-effect sensor. The car started before the conversion and now it doesn't, problem being the ignition. All the components check out just fine (both by putting them into a '93 9K CSE 2.0i and by testing with Townsend's and Quasi's various methods). I have found that I'm getting no voltage AT ALL to the connector (under the battery box) for the CPS and so, obviously, no signal return.
The pins 1 & 5 from the old transmission selector have been shorted to allow the car to start as is, I gather from the BB, normal.
The dash has been fiddled with, but I doubt any wiring has been dislodged and I'm guessing that even if the wiring for the tach was knocked off, it'd still start.
Car cranks fine, all components fine (including plugs) but mysterious broken connection to the CPS (possibly only one of a number of faults, let's hope not though!).
Any help at all would be dearly appreciated and will result in the erection of a shrine to The Saviour who gets me out of this wretched nightmare of fiddly little wires.
