I agree with David 100%.
The best car would be no car, failing that a slow car. Preferably something new with a ton of safety features.
Kids in this area (D.C.)seem to be in the habit of wrapping themselves around trees, often in very nice vehicles. We have lost well into the double digits in the last couple of months, and I wonder if this is in any way connected with the fact that this is a very affluent area where many parents buy their kids cars.
Spend some of the savings on good professional driving instruction.
