Yes the DP does go where the old DP and cat went. I recommend putting it on loosly and then measuring how much you need to cut off of it. The reducer comes with it along with a clamp and a clamp with hanger attached. If you put a 3" cat on, as I plan to do, it will go where the intermediary pipe is and the reducer will then attach to the cat. It will all fit on there without cutting but like I said it doesn't fit cleanly and I'm afraid it puts too much stress on hangers and the rest of the system.
