Also check for:
- Leaking gasket under the cam cover and rear propshaft seal;
- Noisy chain (at this age a small peace of rubber on the cam cover will become cock-stiff and the chain has a degree of undue play, hence the noise;
- Crunching gears (synchros facing the Gates of paradise) and innacurate shift - problem with hard-driven Aeros (Manuals);
- Bum heaters should heat;
- Correct operation of the climate system (should show "0" after the reset)
If you consider a swap of shocks - go for Koni Sports and you'll never regret it.
As for the ability to tackle a winter road - well, after 3 9000s and 250 000 km in total on Russian roads I frankly struggle to find anything better than a 9000. Weight distribution is spot on just for this kind of weather.
I never got stuck in a 9000. Even in deep and or wet snow you can alsways work you way out (push/pull), provided you have a manual 'box. Duuno what tire models you have over there, but Goodyears UG500s are just excellent.
And difference from 900OG - well, to put it simply - there is a chasm between these two.
Good luck and fly carefully
