It is a 1988 9ks with 197k miles. Sorry I left those details out. The loud clacking from the valve area is constant even if I let the engine idle for an hour and the engine has a small occasional miss which started the same time as the noise.
I have been using 20W50 conventional dino oil and wonder if the passages are cloged and the valve lifters are collapsed. Just changed the oil and filter and I added a small amount of motor flush and let it idle to clean out. However, the oil still looks new.
Could it be sticky valves or collapsed lifters and if I drive the car will I damage the engine? So far I have let it gently idle.
