Why do you need to disconnect power to the headunit? It you're just installing the changer, there's no need to disconnect power...
If you can't find the code written on it (mine wasn't), call or go to any Saab dealer with the radio number (serial or something, its printed on it) and they'll give you the code.
By the way, no you can't operate the radio without a code and you can't change the code from the factory preset.
