OK, an old Firesign Theater joke.

Fast cars have nothing to do with it. You can speed in a Kia with a bad cylinder if you just keep the pedal down far enough long enough.

With instant-on Radar and Laser guns, electronic counter-measures only work if they shoot the guy in front of you. Hey, that's great on the highway, but most tickets get passed out on local roads, for doing 45 in a 30 zone. Yeah, nobody does 30 in a 30 zone, well, nobody but a Buick. So if the guys around the corner and you're not lucky enough for your detector to pick up the signal when the cop is illuminating the guy in front, you're toast.

So, what do you do? Pay attention. First, it's a good rule of driving. Yes, there are cops. There are also bad drivers, little kids on bikes, potholes, and the like. Be aware of the situation. Look ahead. If you're paying enough attention to be a safe driver, you're going to spot 90% of the cops in time to slow down. OK, maybe 80%. A decent radar/laser detector will help for a few more percent. And there is no guarantee you can always beat getting a ticket - if the cop is set up properly on a corner, and he's good with the gun, you won't be able to beat him. So sometimes, you just need to keep your speed reasonable, whatever that means.
