No doubt, there are bunches of radar- and laser-detectors out there. And every one of them depends on the cop illuminating somebody in front of you within range of the detector. Some are better than others, and I'll leave that up to other folks to discuss. I ran with an Escort way, way, waaay back when they first came out, and were the cream of the crop. But I found that the cops had too many methods that wouldn't work with a radar detector - yes it would catch some percentage of traps, but fewer and fewer. So I didn't upgrade when laser detectors came out.

In terms of electronic counter-measures, there are detectors and jammers. Jammers are illegal. That doesn't mean they aren't out there. I imagine that there are laser versions. In the very early days of radar guns, even the instant-on ones had a local oscillator which some detectors could pick up. But manufacturers are smarter now.

I live in Connecticut, and I don't know the last time I saw a radar trap. It's almost exclusively instant-on laser. So I have to rely on spotting the cop. Also in CT, there are scads of unmarked cars. I'm not talking about a Crown Vic without a light bar, but otherwise dung-brown with black wheels. I'm talking Chevy Malibus and old Cameros and various Ford SUVs. They don't need electronics to get you.

Really, I'm not trying to spoil the fun. I just cashed out of the electronic countermeasures race a long time ago. It's like missle defense - you can spend a bunch to protect you against a percentage of threats, but the low-tech threats are hard to beat.

And yes, we are all Bozos on This Bus.
