Thanks. All I had to go by in asking this is the widely-experienced (to judge in here) "one-strand-of-the-belt-split-and-began-flapping-around" dilemma. I had it replaced, but to be cautious the indie I use first said to replace the tensioner pulley as well. And I resisted, because it had been done just 6,000 miles ago. When I went back he said, after a new belt had been installed, that the pulley actually didn't appear to move around "any more than many on the road," which didn't make me too happy, to say the least.
Concerning the rear caliper, I do wonder how much "resistance" you mean. There seem to be a number of tests around. On the Protech site, for instance, the advice is to tighten the screw until the tire spins for exactly one full turn...
