My observation:
If your pulley has not benefited from an oil bath courtesy of (a) a leaky front main seal (b) a leaky cam cover (c) a leaky oil filter or cooler adapter (d) a leaky oil-cooler hose or (e) something else that failed to keep the dinosaurs in, it may last almost indefinitely.
If your pulley has spent more than a couple days being doused with oil or ATF courtesy of any of the above, it's already on its way.
This has been my experience on a '78 99 (consistent cooling system and electrical problems but never any oil leaks and never a pulley failure), an '81 900T (half a dozen leaks when I bought it, fixed all the leaks and two months later the pulley started grinding the heads off the oil-pump bolts), and our '92 9000T (a little cam-cover seepage and a bit of oil from between the block and the oil-cooler adapter and - voila - the pulley's sitting in the fender.)
