I've had six Saabs dating back to a '74 99EMS. My '95CDE with V6 is different, but I wouldn't agree with inferior. General concensus is that it has an Opel heritage and I think the "its not a Saab engine" bias kicks in. I maintain that car the same as all the others, which is to say religiously, and I've got to say it's a sweet ride. The V6 is very smooth and a great interstate cruiser. 32 mpg at 75mph, which is better than my '98CSE. Different torque curve, so it's sluggish off the line, but plenty of power at the upper end. I think some of the bad press is the fiber timing belt, vice chain, and the 30k change interval. Miss a change and break a belt and you're shopping for two new heads! This has been increased to 60k with the new belt tensioner design.
